Put a New Twist On Old Ideas for Mothers Day!

Mothers Day is the official day to show our love and appreciation for those who birthed us, raised us or cared for us in our lives. It is a special day which is set aside to honor these amazing women who have given of themselves to create and mold us into the people we are today. Often we scour the web looking for creative mother’s day ideas which will show her this time just how much she means. Ironically, there really is no gift which we can give our moms which will compare with the sacrifices they have made but there are ways to turn those generic presents into creative and unexpected ones.

This year, surprise your mom by going out of your way to do something different. Something which took you a bit more time and planning rather than a quick purchase is ideal. A gift from the heart is always the best way to go and will create memories rather than piles of clutter and decaying flowers. Check out these 7 Creative Mothers Day Ideas and put a new spin on old concepts

Set Up a Photoshoot for Mom

1.From Spa’s to Glamour Photos

Believe it or not your mom DOES still want to feel young and beautiful! Instead of taking her to the same old spa, why not try taking her to a professional photographer for a photo shoot. This is a great gift idea for a mom who loves pictures and likes to feel young and youthful! Check your local listings for photographers and hire a make up artist if they don’t have one on hand. You can also go with Glamour Shots which is a franchise that is set up for this very thing. Invite the whole family and you can do a few group shots as well. If you don’t want to do the fancy thing, go for some elegant black and whites in a natural setting with the whole family. These photos will be something she will remember forever and you can blow them up and present them to her on Mothers Day.

2. From Flowers to Gardens

Instead of buying flowers which will die in a few days, think about planting a garden for your mom. This will be especially thoughtful if your mom is older and unable to do this herself. Pick a spot in her yard or purchase a couple of hanging baskets or planting boxes. Make sure to incorporate several perennial plants such as wildflowers which will bloom year after year and become a tribute to her each time she looks out her window. Perennials are great as they require very little maintenance once they get going and attract a variety of humming birds and butterflies. Check out this list of perennials which are relatively inexpensive to order:

Kitchen Herb Garden

Another garden idea is to plant a kitchen herb garden. This is a fabulous gift for a mom who loves to cook. Not only will she have beautiful herbal plants (many of which bloom and have lovely flowers) but the fragrance and bounty for cooking is perfect! You can also plant these in boxes or small beds outside the house. Check your geographical zone to find out what grows in the areas where you live.

Personalize a Garden Sign!

Consider making your mom a lovely hand crafted garden sign from you and the family. Saying something like, “Mom’s Garden” or “Our Love for You Blooms Here Mom” is a wonderful tribute.

Try to schedule a time to do this when she is not home or have another family member take her out somewhere for the day. When she returns she will find a beautiful garden planted in her honor from you!

3. Dinner or Brunch Surprise

Most moms are used to the usual out to brunch or dinner affair at the local favorite restaurant but how about planning something at home which will surprise her. Your mom will be so much more impressed that you went above and beyond to cook a gourmet and elegant dinner in her honor. Incorporate the whole family into creating dishes and have the children or grandkids wear little waiter/waitress aprons and serve her. Here are several amazing recipes for special Mothers Day meals.

4. Wardrobe Expert

Have you ever watched those TV shows where design and fashion experts transform people by picking out their perfect wardrobe? How about instead of buying your mom a nice new outfit of your choice, you set up an appointment for her to go with a personal shopper. Set her up with someone who is going to make her feel fabulous and will pick out the perfect look for her body type and personality. This creative mother’s day idea will make your mom feel like a Hollywood A-lister and she will never forget the amazing experience.

5. From Photo Album to Scrapbook

Anyone can print a bunch of pictures, stick them in a book and wrap it up. Sure, moms like photos and it’s nice to have them but why not take it up a notch. Start early and begin a beautiful scrapbook of keepsakes and photos. Take your time to make this a meaningful book which will make her laugh and cry with each turned page. Scrapbooking is such a fun way to express and share memories so why not create something which pays homage to her life and she can show off. If you have never made a scrapbook you can take simple classes at local craft stores or simply take a look at some of the useful info below to help you get started.

6. Pay Tribute To Mom's Cooking!

Put together a beautiful recipe book containing all of mom's secret recipes! Get together with the family to collect the recipes which have been shared over the years. Incorporate everyone by having pages such as "Susie's Favorite" and so forth to make it extra special. Include comments about the items to make mom feel extra special. For example, "This recipe is one of my favorites, I remember Mom cooking this every Easter and it is the best!"

7. Write About Mom

Instead of a boring greeting card with regurgitated words, how about writing and publishing something for her. Create a hub all about your mom or publish an ebook with photos, etc.! Tell her story and the things she has taught you and publish this in her honor. Be sure to incorporate beautiful photographs and touching poetry or quotes about motherhood. This is an especially great idea for moms who live long distance. You can include your moms’ favorite or best recipes and really tell the story of someone who is meaningful in your life.

You can sign up for an article directory or have the family start a blog! Either way she will be touched by the gesture and meaning behind your words.
